We Start Off the New Year With Joel Karlinsky’s Latest Comedy, NIK DRAHNO, SUPERHERO

January 5 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$10.00

To say that Dr. Joel Karlinsky, pulmonologist, is a prolific screenwriter would be a gross understatement. Ever since getting the script writing bug, nearly 2 decades ago, Joel has juggled his medical career with the writing of scripts, mostly comedies in the vein of Mel Brooks. Most recently, he’s become a playwright.

We kick off the ’26 semester with Joel Karlinsky’s stage play/dramedy NIK DRAHNO, SUPERHERO next Monday, January 5th
As usual, we will meet virtually from 7:00 – 9:00 PM EST
LOGLINE:  An insecure detective must solve a murder case to prove his worth.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Joel Karlinsky is a graduate of MIT, Tufts Medical School and the BU School of Management and is now a Professor Emeritus of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at BU. During his career he has done medical research and has taught Harvard and BU students, residents, and Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellows, instructing them in patient care and ICU medicine.
Joel has a Certificate in Screenwriting from UCLA that he earned online a long time ago. The result of that experience was his first feature, a comedy about an exercise obsessed physician-detective solving a murder case. Joel has written many features and several pilots since then. He’s been a member of Harvard Square Script Writers for many years.
Many of his screenplays have done well in screenwriting competitions. THE MAGIC HOURGLASS was a semifinalist at the 2020 PAGE Competition, BRISKET, co-written with Eafat Newton, was a finalist in the 2019 Big Break Contest, and a winner in the 2020 Fresh Voices Competition, as well as a quarterfinalist in the 2021 PAGE Competition. And, his pilot THE SIPHONIST was a semifinalist at the 2020 Austin Film Festival. SAY GOODNIGHT, GRACIE, was a semifinalist in the 2022 Stage 32 Comedy Screenwriting Competition.
Joel is also a member of TC2, a Stage Play writers group. His play, GODOT SHOWS was stage read at the Foundry in 2025.

NIK DRAHNO, SUPERHERO is his latest stage play effort. It’s a dramedy and he hopes you enjoy it as much as he enjoyed writing it, which, in case you were wondering, was a lot.
