Harvard Square Script Writers (HSSW) is one of the oldest and most established script-writing groups in the nation.  Founded by Laura Bernieri in 1986, run until 2011 by Scott Anderson, and now under the direction of Genine Tillotson, HSSW is a place for creative people to hone their craft.  We offer assistance in the development, refinement, and promotion of screenplays, TV series, streaming projects and stage plays and are a registered 501 (c) 3 non-profit.

Over the past 3 decades the entertainment industry has witnessed a transformation in the professional possibilities for scriptwriters. With the expansion of cable TV (at now over 200 channels), the internet, and on-demand video streaming, the venues for entertainment writing have literally exploded. In 2020 alone, over 240 scripted TV series were being produced by a combination of networks and streaming services.

Highly affordable shooting and editing equipment has also re-shaped the film-making world, creating production opportunities far beyond the multi-million dollar Hollywood feature.

To keep pace with these changes, HSSW has endeavored to help its authors adapt to these new career outlets.

We meet in hybrid and/or virtual sessions weekly or sometimes bi-weekly to critique members’ work (in Cambridge, Massachusetts), additionally sponsoring workshops on a wide range of topics, from how to write a compelling log line to developing a powerful third act.  We also run screenings and competitions.

New members are always welcome and are encouraged to attend a trial meeting or two before submitting their work for review.  Dues to attend a meetings is only $10.00, payable via check, or easily through Paypal or Zelle. See each specific posted review or event for online payment methods.

Currently we meet Mondays from 7:00 – 9:00 PM, EST.  Anyone from around the world may participate by contacting admin@hsswriters.com and then paying via Zelle or Paypal. Payment ensures automatic enrollment in the meeting or event.

Authors seeking a script, treatment or outline review must first join as a Lifetime Author Member for $300.00 and should plan on attending at least two script reviews prior to submitting a script of his or her own.  This is a one-time fee. See Membership for further details.
