Andrea Squires worked for years as a Colonial re-enactor.  When she was asked to play the part of  Mary Douthwaite Wall, she began to imagine the role expanded into a series.

Proposed alternate titles – The Company of Players or The Company.

Logline (series and pilot):
A young man discovers his identity with a touring theatrical company in the time of the American Revolution.

Target Audience: Young Adults–Seniors (history and costume-drama lovers, PBS lovers.)

About the Author:
Andrea Squires has a B.A. in Theatre from Bard College, and an M.Ed. in Instructional Design from UMass-Boston. She works as an Instructional Designer for Santander Bank.

She has published short stories in small press magazines, most recently in an anthology of scary stories, “Ghosts and Gravestones.”

Andrea acted and toured professionally in the 1980’s and ‘90s. At Colonial Williamsburg in Virginia, she was a Theatrical Interpreter from 2011-2015 and a Storyteller/Evening Program Performer from 2008-2016.

She is delighted and honored to be a member of the Harvard Square Script Writers.

Author’s notes:
This version of Players is in outline stage – it’s a re-imagining of a previous version of this pilot. I see this project as a limited streaming series, 6-8 episodes.

I played Mary Douthwaite Wall at Colonial Williamsburg. The actor playing Thomas and I co-wrote a program performed twice weekly, called “Disgraced Actor, Suspected Loyalist.” We hated the title, it wasn’t ours. The program was performed at the Raleigh Tavern, and audiences responded well to it.

Much of the story of Thomas and Mary Wall, and David Douglass and his American Company of Comedians, is true. The series spans 1766-1789 and takes the audience to most of the major cities in early America.
