Andrea Squires Presents her Recently Completed Two-Act Play, PLAYERS on Monday, January 22nd
January 19 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
$10.00Welcome to a new semester of Harvard Square Script Writers where we’re celebrating the end of all strikes and a hopefully better new year.
We kick off with Andrea Squires’ latest work, PLAYERS, inspired by something she once starred in.
This will be reviewed virtually Monday, January 22nd from 7:00 – 9:00. NOTE: There is no in-person option. See sign-up instructions below.
Genre: Historical Fiction
Logline: A family of actors struggle to keep theater – and themselves – alive during the American Revolution.
Target Audience: All Adults
Author’s Note: Many of you have seen an outline of a pilot of PLAYERS as a TV series. When reading this play, please forget everything about the outline. I changed so many things that it would just be confusing to compare the outline to this play.
To history lovers: The bones of this story are true, and I have the research, which I’ll happily share if you are interested. However, there’s a lot of conjecture. Some of it is mine, some is conjecture by various theatre historians.
About the set and stage directions: I started out trying to visualize every detail and ended up just telling the story. If you want to compare for style, watch a segment of THE LIFE AND ADVENTURES OF NICHOLAS NICKLEBY. There is just one big company of actors, and they take on all the parts as needed, except for the leads. The company does everything, including moving scenery and props, and they even become objects, such as a carriage or buildings on a London street.
A shorter version of the story was a program at Colonial Williamsburg Foundation by Alex Morse as Thomas and myself as Mary.
SO BE SURE TO SIGN UP: Simply pay $10.00 via Zelle or Paypal using the links genine@hsswriters.com or 978-505-5652. Indicate 1/22/24 Review.
