We’re starting the New Year with an exciting table read led by some of our renowned HSSW members and some new faces too! Join us virtually on Monday, Jan 9th for a table read of ten pages from scripts by Kathy Cafferty, Charlie Lyons, Mari SanGiovanni, and Geoff Wilson. Don’t miss this fun night!

The evening will feature a table read of ten pages from the following:

Kathy Cafferty’s C.S.A
Logline: When her 12-year-old evangelical daughter suffers a paralyzing accident, an atheist archaeologist and her family are trapped in the new Christian States of America. After obtaining an illegal medical treatment, she wrestles with whether she can trust her daughter, who becomes a celebrity after her miracle cure, which will result in either freedom or an Old Testament death penalty.

About Kathy: Kathy is a voracious reader, film lover and aspiring screenwriter. After years of tech writing for software companies, she moved to Key West, FL, to write creatively. Sixteen crazy years and one produced stage play later, she moved back to the Boston area and has been a member of HSSW for a few years. This is her first completed screenplay.

Charlie Lyons’ short play FIASCO
Logline: A couple in love tries to navigate their way through an absurd and dangerous world.

About Charlie: Charlie is a criminal defense attorney and former prosecutor. He’s hitchhiked across the USA. Was a stonemason. Taught English in Japan. Drove a semi truck. Was a roadie. And a drummer. He eloped and married in Italy. And he writes plays, tv scripts, and film scripts, including Confidential Informant, The B&E Artist, Our Hero, and Fiasco. Recently, he directed his play Fiasco off-off Broadway at The Secret Theatre. He’s currently finishing a draft of a new tv pilot and will be directing his feature film script, Confidential Informant, in the near future.

Mari SanGiovanni’s screenplay THE RETREAT
Logline: Two women make an instant connection at a women’s retreat, only to find that they are also connected by a recent tragedy.

About Mari: Mari SanGiovanni is the author of the comedy romance novels Greetings From Jamaica, Wish You Were Queer, Camptown Ladies, and 80% Done with Straight Girls. Mari’s 4 th novel, Liddy-Jean, Marketing Queen will be published in Spring 2023. Mari’s original screenplay THE SIBLING RULE started as a table read and was made into a micro-budget short film by Love Is Love Productions, LLC, which Mari directed and partnered with HSSW’s Paul Falcone as cinematographer and editor, and Casey Lynch as Production Assistant.

Geoff Wilson’s ContrActors
Logline: To make ends meet, three struggling actors hire themselves out to play roles in real life.

About Geoff: Geoff is an aspiring screenwriter and the treasurer of the Harvard Square Script Writer’s board. ContrActors is the third project he’s brought to HSSW.
