Let’s Get Past the Long to the Short of It – So Join Us for 4 Short Scripts on 4/18

We have 4 vastly different shorts by members Miles Benson, Rick Groleau, Joel Karlinsky and Genine Tillotson.

Three of these are new projects and Genine’s is a re-write although she’s not sure the group ever saw an earlier draft.
 
So here you go:

FROM MILES:

Dream Clean

Logline:

When a doorway to the realm of myth is opened in a house she cleans for, a down on her luck cleaning lady and her two friends are reluctantly tasked with stopping a fallen angel, and creatures of legend, from rewriting history.

About the Author:

Miles returns to HSSW to have the group review his new proof of concept short film, with the working title of Dream Clean.

While Miles also writes the feature version of his earlier short, Jerkwater, he is planning on making Dream Clean this year to keep up his filmmaking chops.

FROM RICK:

How the Scientists Solved Almost Everything 

Logline:

A family discovers that an immortality pill has its quirks.

About the Author:

Rick Groleau is a multimedia producer and filmmaker based in the Boston  area. Since 2013 he has directed and produced five micro-budget films that have screened at 25+ regional film festivals, winning awards that include Best Feature, Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Indie Short, Best Maine Film, Best Short, and Best of Festival awards.

Two of these films have been broadcast on Vermont and Maine public television.

Rick is originally from Livermore Falls, Maine.

FROM JOEL:

Early Bird Special

Logline:

A middle-aged woman lunches with her very good friend and gets some surprising advice.

About the Author:

Joel is a graduate of MIT, Tufts University School of Medicine, and the BU Graduate School of Management. He earned a Certificate in Screenwriting from UCLA online.

He’s now Professor Emeritus of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at BU and has been a member of the Harvard Square Scriptwriters for over fifteen years.

He’s written many  features, mostly comedic, and several have done well in Screenwriting contests. Brisket, co-written with Eafat Newton, was a finalist in the 2019 Big Break Contest. The Magic Hourglass was a quarterfinalist in the ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship and a semifinalist in the 2020 PAGE International Screenwriting Competition. The Siphonist was a semifinalist in the 2020 Austin Film Festival Teleplay Competition.

He enjoys writing unusual stories, collecting first editions, and drinking dry martinis

Logline:

When an illegal alien who has lived and worked in the US for over 20 years finally applies for a green card, she discovers that the only outcome is likely deportation.  Will anyone step up to help her?

About The Author:

Genine Amada Tillotson is the director of Harvard Square Script Writers (HSSW) and is the principal of Magic Lantern Multimedia LLC, based in Newton MA.  She has been writing, producing and directing award-winning video and multimedia projects for over 25 years.

Early in her career, Ms. Tillotson worked for Action for Children’s Television, helped outline a TV series at ABC which evolved into the After School Specials, and wrote treatments for Harvey Weinstein at his earliest venture Weinstein Skyfield Productions.

She has written and directed programs, supported by the National Science Foundation and the US Dept. of Education, and has created an assortment of video projects for broadcast, web and large-scale events.

Her diverse clients have included Mattel; Fisher Price; the Boston Museum of Science; Silver Burdett and Ginn; The San Francisco Exploratorium; Sacred Heart University; MIT’s CSAIL; Harvard University; National Geographic and Mass General Hospital to name a few.  Her multimedia exhibits have been showcased in 24 museums around the world.

She was the un-credited script doctor of a variety of PBS science programs and the IMAX film, Coral Reef Adventure.

Her awards include a Silver New York Film Festival, a Gold Muse Award, three Gold Nebbys, including two “Best Overall Achievement,” and three ITVA Gold awards, among others.

Ms. Tillotson has been a guest speaker at NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) and has lectured at Lesley University, Harvard University, Northeastern, and Emerson College.

In 2012 Ms. Tillotson assumed leadership of Harvard Square Script Writers.

In 2016 Ms. Tillotson was also the executive director of the Different Faces, Different Voices Film Festival in Cambridge, MA featuring the Flicks4Chicks short film contest.

She is also the host of the HSSW-sponsored web series Second Chance Cinema, which looks at “The Best Moves You’ve Never Seen.”

As of January 2021, Ms. Tillotson had released the first 7 webisodes of the comedy Next Great Hire which she wrote, directed, and co-produced.

She is a member of Women in Film and Video – the NE Chapter, Film Fatales, and Harvardwood and has been a script reader and judge at a number of festivals, including the Woods Hole Film Festival, the Women in Comedy Festival and ITVFest.

She holds a BA in English and Psychology from Rutgers College and a Masters and CAS from Harvard University in Educational Media.
