Monday, March 23rd We Welcome New Writer Rusty Hoover With a Review of Her Fantasy Thriller AN UNKINDNESS OF RAVENS

March 23 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

$10.00
It’s been a minute and lots has happened in the world since our last HSSW meeting, but now the rest of this semester promises to bring a plethora of great stories. (Always looking for an excuse to use the word “plethora.”)

Next up we review new member, Rusty Hoover’s dramatic feature/fantasy thriller, An Unkindness of Ravens.
As always, we’ll meet virtually from 7:00 – 9:00 EST.
GENRES: Mystery; Fantasy Thriller; Drama

LOGLINE: To prove her innocence, a reporter suspected of serial murder must battle an evil cult that needs her blood to resurrect the Hungarian countess trapped in a mysterious 400-year-old mirror.

This is Rusty’s first submission to the group so we hope you’ll give her a great and welcoming turnout.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Cynthia “Rusty” Hoover has been writing all her life, and actually had a play produced in the third or fourth grade when she showed her writing to a teacher, who asked her to get some friends and act out the play. Happily for all of us, that script has not survived. The characters were named Rosa and Tosa. More recently, she has worked as a federal administrative law judge in Las Vegas for close to 12 years. She retired at the end of February 2026.
Before that, she was a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Nevada.
Prior to turning to the study of law, she worked as an award-winning reporter and editor for a
number of newspapers, covering crime, doing investigative reporting, and also covering higher education.
She holds a Bachelor’s in Journalism and a Master’s in Creative Writing from the University of Colorado, a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard University and a law degree from the University of California, Davis.
She has written two screenplays, and an early version of An Unkindness of Ravens was a quarterfinalist in the Stage 32 New Blood Contest in 2020. In her spare time she attempts to train two Great Pyrenees dogs who frequently look at her as if to say, “You never taught me the word ‘sit.’ Not ever… not once.”
TO SIGN UP: Simply pay $10.00 via Zelle or Paypal using the links genine@hsswriters.com or 978-505-5652. Indicate 3/23 Review. This review is also available for easy signup right here at our website. All proceeds go to the volunteer, non-profit HSSW in support of our programming.  Deadline for sign-ups is Monday, March 23rd EST at noon. The review meeting link will be sent out by 3:00 PM.
Hope to see you then!
