On 3/21 the Karlinsky & Newton Team Present a Re-Write of the Psychological Thriller DISSECTING ROD SERLING

Joel Karlinsky and Eafat Newton, long-time HSSWers, have partnered on a few scripts, this pilot being one of them.  So, please join us to take a fresh look at their revised version of already award-winning Dissecting Rod Serling.

Most recently, this script was a semi-finalist in the Filmmatic – PITCH NOW Screenplay Competition, Season 4.

Logline:  In 1975, when an unstable medical student dissects the cadaver of the late Rod Serling, it triggers paranormal experiences, forcing her to navigate a world where the dean of her school, her memories, and even her own imagination are all out to get her.

About the Authors:

JOEL KARLINSKY: 

Joel Karlinsky is a graduate of MIT, Tufts Medical School and the BU School of Management and now a retired Professor of Medicine at BU.

He has been a member of the Harvard Square Scriptwriters for over fifteen years.

Joel holds a Certificate in Screenwriting from UCLA and has written twelve features, mostly comedic. Many have done well in Screenwriting contests, The Magic Hourglass was a semifinalist at the 2020 PAGE Competition; Brisket, co-written with Eafat Newton, was a finalist in the 2019 Big Break Contest, and a winner in the 2020 Fresh Voices Competition, as well as a quarterfinalist in the 2021 PAGE Competition. His pilot, The Siphonist was a semifinalist at the 2020 Austin Film Festival.

EAFAT NEWTON:

After earning her MBA at Vanderbilt University, Eafat Newton worked as an account manager at a leading multinational market research firm. Eager to explore human behavior beyond data analysis, she turned to creative writing and completed a Screenwriting Certificate from Emerson College.

Her work includes five feature scripts and four television pilots. Her script, Unorthodox, won the Bronze Prize for TV Sitcom Pilot in the 2018 PAGE Screenwriting Competition.

She has been a member of HSSW since 2013. When not writing scripts, Eafat has worked as a co-producer for Boston’s Women in Comedy Festival.
