ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Obsessed with being a professional student for most of her life, Judy earned an undergraduate degree at Cornell University in Psychology, a Masters Degree in Art History from Boston University, and an MFA in Fine Arts and an MFA in Motion Graphics and New Media/Film from Massachusetts College of Art.

She ran her own award winning graphic design business, Richland Design Associates for twenty years and also served for two years as the President of the Boston Chapter of AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Designers). After her MFA in New Media/Film she began a teaching career at Simmons University, as an Assistant Professor of Practice, where she taught among other subjects, film editing, motion design, graphic communications, and international women in film.

She is proud to have founded and run the International Women’s Film Forum for five years at Simmons University, where she hosted women filmmakers from all over the world. After twelve years at Simmons (and part-time at the Boston Museum School), she decided to follow her dream to make her own films. Since leaving academia she co-hosts Boston Film Fatales and has co-produced three films. Murder on the Cape (2017) is on Netflix and The Black Emperor of Broadway (2020) is on Amazon Prime. For the third film, Art Thief she was the executive producer and also designed and created the opening titles. In 2024 Art Thief toured festivals throughout the United States (including the Boston International Film Festival) and is now streaming on Amazon Prime.

Working with the Harvard Square Script Writers for the past five years (after studying screenwriting at Grub Street and the Sundance Screenwriting Collaborative) has greatly helped Judith to critically examine her scripts. Her script Becoming Tennessee won two awards in 2021, one as an Official Selection of the Ink and Cinema Competition and the other as a Quarter Finalist for the Screencraft True Story Showcase Competition. She is proud to be a member of HSSW because it is a rare community of devoted screenwriters who generously give their time and share their analytical talents to fellow members of the group.
