ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Obsessed with being a professional student for most of her life, Judith Richland earned an undergraduate degree at Cornell University in Psychology, a Masters Degree in Art History from Boston University, and an MFA in Fine Arts and an MFA in Motion Graphics and New Media/Film from Massachusetts College of Art.

She ran her own award winning graphic design business, Richland Design Associates for twenty years and also served for two years as the President of the Boston Chapter of AIGA (American Institute of Graphic Designers).

After her MFA in New Media/Film she began a teaching career at Simmons University where she taught among other subjects, film editing, motion design, graphic communications, and international women in film, as an Assistant Professor of Practice.

She is proud to have founded and run the International Women’s Film Forum for five years at Simmons University, where she hosted women filmmakers from all over the world.

After twelve years at Simmons (and part-time at the Boston Museum School), she decided to follow her dream to make her own films. Since leaving academia she has co-hosted Boston Film Fatales and has co-produced three films. MURDER ON THE CAPE (2017) on Netflix, THE BLACK EMPEROR OF BROADWAY (2020) available on Amazon Prime and a third film she co-produced,  ART THIEF which has screened at 10 festivals and will be screening April 2024 at the Boston International Film Festival.

Art Thief was also recently acquired by Glass House Distribution.

Working with the Harvard Square Screenwriters for the past five years (after studying screenwriting at Grub Street and the Sundance Screenwriting Collaborative) has greatly helped Judith Richland to critically examine her scripts. Her script Becoming Tennessee won two awards in 2021, one as an Official Selection of the Ink and Cinema Competition and the other as a Quarter Finalist for the Screencraft True Story Showcase Competition.

She is proud to be a member of HSSW because it is a rare community of devoted screenwriters who generously give their time and share their analytical talents to fellow members of the group.
