This year (and next) Harvard Square Script Writers hopes to sponsor a series of screenings and talk-backs at the wonderful Foundry Arts Center in Cambridge, MA.

Our first event will be on Saturday, October 7th from 3:00 – 6:00 PM.

We’ll be looking at a comedy NEXT GREAT HIRE which was developed by HSSW Director, Genine Tillotson with input from many of HSSW’s college interns.

The project, intended as a proof-of-concept pilot (or possible web series) was first outlined in 2018 when a group of about-to-be-grads talked about the problem of finding a job in their field of study. The gig economy, along with a glut of students with liberal arts educations entering the workforce, had created a perfect storm where talented, well-educated grads found themselves employed as baristas, admin assistants, and dog walkers – if they were lucky. This led to:

NEXT GREAT HIRE, a spoof on reality TV with a darkly humorous look at the limited prospects for those entering the workforce.

Logline: A wannabe reality TV host cons five recent college grads into being part of his pilot in exchange for helping them find employment.

Genres: Satiric Comedy; Coming of Age

Comps: SEX EDUCATION; THE OFFICE; SCHITT’S CREEK

Premise: Can five young and insanely naive recent college grads actually find the jobs of their dreams if they’re willing to be cast in a new reality TV series geared at helping them? Or will the show prove to be their undoing?
