On May 1st thirty eight production teams submitted their films to the Flicks4Chicks contest featured as part of the Different Faces, Different Voices Film Festival, organized by Harvard Square Script Writers.
The films are now being judged by an esteemed panel including Joyce Kulhawik of Joyce’s Choices, Gerry Peary, Suffolk University professor, noted film critic and film historian, and David Kleiler, Michelle Barbera and Elyse Schuerman, all film festival founders in their own right. Also judging are Florence Mugenyi, Co-Chair of Development of Women and Film/New England, Ava LaReaux a Rhode Island- based indie filmmaker and professional mediator and James Joyce, Executive Director of Wellesley Television.
Only twenty eight films will make it to the final cut but all films (or their trailers) will be available after the festival at the Flicks4Chicks Vimeo channel. They range from eerily terrifying science fiction to satiric urban comedy.
The Different Faces, Different Voices Film festival screenings will run at the Brattle Theater on June 29th and 30th. Workshops and panels will be held at nearby locations. Creator of X-factor films, Lauren Tracy will discuss what she and her team look for in Millennial films while documentary filmmaker Allison Argo will describe a lifetime of telling the stories of animals. Marcy Holland, writer of a number of Lifetime movies will discuss the development process when working for the ultimate Chick Flick channel and director John Stimpson will reveal how these films are made, often on budgets that would make feature filmmakers gasp.
All teams are invited to attend a closed cast and crew wrap-up celebration at John Harvard’s Brew Pub on Wednesday, June 29th from 9:30 – 11:30. The excitement just keeps on growing!
