“Death Gets A Life” — Possibly On Screen!

Eight years ago, film critic Bob Tremblay reflected back on a long series of personal tragedies, and penned his dark comedy Death Gets A Life.  In this Boston-based rom com, Mortimer Todd (aka Death) falls for a determined young ER doc and realizes he may need to give up his lethal vocation if he hopes to win her heart.

The script attracted the attention of producers, Laura Bernieri, Joan Quinn Eastman and development guru, David Kleiler.  With Ed Asner now attached, excitement has mounted in recent months and the pressure is on to finalize the script.BTremblayCrop

Harvard Square Script Writers took a look at the most recent draft on February 3rd.  Discussion focused on many issues, the three most important being:
1) the likability of the protagonist and appeal of the antagonist (in romances the antagonist is always the love interest so the audience must grow to adore him/her, no matter how flawed)
2) establishing the rules of the story’s fantasy bible (consistency of the supernatural rules promotes audience suspension of disbelief)
3) ensuring dramatic character arc for both sides of the love duo.

We look forward to seeing the final draft and hearing updates on the project.
