Eafat Newton’s Award-Winning “Even Stevie” Gets a Second Look, Monday, 1/16

Next Monday we have Eafat Newton’s script Even Stevie, a re-write from an earlier version the group reviewed.  Eafat is coming all the way from Cincinnati to meet up with us so do try to make it!

Logline:
A Nantucket girl finds a mysterious amulet that turns her good deeds into bad luck for her older sister. When her playful sabotage turns dangerous, she must save her family from a magical force far more destructive than sibling rivalry.

Eafat_cropAbout Eafat:

After earning an MBA from Vanderbilt’s Owen Graduate School of Management, she worked as a market researcher, looking for magic but not finding any. Eager to explore human behavior beyond data analysis, she turned to creative writing and completed a Screenwriting Certificate from Emerson. She has been an active member of HSSW since 2013. Though she recently relocated to Ohio, she remains connected to the group—albeit remotely—and is excited to be back in Harvard Square to review this project in person.

Eafat explains:

I wrote Even Stevie as a family movie with humor and heart appealing to children and adults alike.  It blends mischief, magic and coming of age in the working class side of island life. In 2014, an earlier version of Even Stevie won Runner-Up in the Woods Hole Film Festival Screenplay Competition. I workshopped Even Stevie at the 2016 Stowe Story Labs Writers’ Retreat, and I am hoping further drafts and valuable input will help make Stevie fly.
