HSSW Hosts Its 1st Stage Reading in Collaboration with WIFV/NE, September 23rd

HSSW, in collaboration with Women in Film and Video/New England, is proud to present the work of HSSW veteran Joel Karlinsky in a stage reading and talk-back at the Central Square Theater on September 23rd at 7:00 p.m. The first of two sponsored readings, Karlinsky’s sci-fi comedy Zombie Cop recently placed in the quarter finals of the Scriptapalooza screenplay contest.

Zombie Cop follows the story of Stanley Fisher, a brilliant and principled undercover cop who is framed for the murder of his partner. After his execution, he awakens to find himself reanimated as Officer Z59, part of a fantastic, but ill-conceived, government experiment where death row alums are wiped of their memories and groomed to join a super-powered police force of ZOMBIE COPS.

Stanley is paired with an athletic and enthusiastic female trainee, Z33 who quickly forms an attachment to her mentor.  Together they fight crime and escape the confines of the Zombie Academy in a quest to live as “normal people” and to prove Stanley’s innocence.  Along the way, they battle the arch criminal Gunther Saroyen and his gang of henchmen and women and are reacquainted with Stanley’s former fiancée.

Starring Matt McLaughlin as Z59 and Michelle Barbera as Z33 and directed by comedian/actress/writer, Christine Cannavo, Zombie Cop (imagine if Mel Brooks wrote Blade Runner) promises a night of raucous entertainment.  HSSW and WIFV/NE members $15.00, others $20.00, students $10.00.  TO PURCHASE TICKETS, CLICK HERE.

The second reading, scheduled for October 28th, features In Search of Our Father, Sylvester Stallone by WIFV/NE’s screenwriting award winner of 2013, Santa Sierra.  Sierra’s script was read and discussed by HSSW in March of 2014.  See article for details on the author and her screenplay.  For further event details click here.
